The Health and Family Welfare Department here, under the aegis of Chief Medical Officer, Chamba, organised an awareness camp on the benefits of breastfeeding at Primary Health Centre, Churi, as part of Breastfeeding Week-2024. Block Medical Officer Dr Navdeep Rathore was present as a special guest at the camp.

MEIO Chhaga Ram Thakur said breastfeeding (the process of feeding breast milk to a child) acted as the first immunisation and complete diet for the child. He recommended the lactating mothers to exclusively breastfeed the newborn for the first six months. Breastfeeding should begin immediately or within an hour after birth. After six months, complementary feeding should be introduced while continuing breastfeeding for up to two years. — OC
