In a bid to raise awareness about drug abuse and combat its growing threat, Superintendent of Police (SP) Solan launched a drug de-addiction campaign today by adopting Government Senior Secondary School (GSSS), Sultanpur.
As part of the initiative, all gazetted officers of the Solan police have each adopted a school, following instructions from the Chief Minister. Solan SP Gaurav Singh said the initiative would not only help students develop a strong interest in academics, sports, NCC, NSS and health but also keep them away from drugs. “It will strengthen the resolve of students to fight drug abuse and protect them from this social evil,” he added.
To make the campaign more interactive, officials engaged with both students and teachers, urging the younger generation to pursue positive activities. “The police department has requested school managements to organise regular awareness programmes and seminars, focusing on personality development through sports and creative activities,” said SP Singh.
Teachers were also urged to monitor students’ behaviour for any sudden changes in attitude and assist in preventing drug addiction. Students were encouraged to voice their concerns to the police department without hesitation, providing a direct channel to express their views.
The campaign’s launch saw strong participation from SP Solan, Additional Superintendent of Police, police station In-charge Dharampu, school principal Daya Panwar, staff and students.
Other schools adopted by district police officers include GSSS Gunnaghat (by Additional SP Raj Kumar), GSSS Dharampur (by ASP Mehar Panwar), GSSS Kandaghat (by DSP Anil Kumar), GSSS Kunihar (by DSP Ashok Chauhan) and GSSS Chandi Kashlog (by DSP Sandeep Sharma).
The officers would visit these schools regularly to foster a drug-free mindset and encourage students to become responsible citizens.
While the Solan police have successfully reduced drug smuggling cases by 26 per cent over the past year, drug abuse remains a significant challenge among the youth. The continued efforts of the police aim to decrease both the supply and demand for drugs, with a focus on creating a drug-free society.
