Camps for special needs children held across state

Samagra Shiksha conducted comprehensive medical assessment camps across the state from November 10-23 for children with special needs (CwSN) to identify disabilities, for medical assessment and recommendation of necessary assistive devices. The programme was conducted in technical collaboration with ALIMCO.

All 12 districts actively participated in the state-wide campaign, which covered 1,404 students from non-PM SHRI schools and 146 students from PM SHRI schools. Specialist doctors, technical experts and field resource personnel conducted detailed health examinations, assessing physical, intellectual, orthopaedic, visual, auditory and other developmental aspects.

A key feature of the camps was the provision of physiotherapy services on-site, providing immediate relief and exercise guidance to many children. Experts also informed parents about childcare, home-based exercises and available government schemes.

The camps identified children in need of assistive devices, which will be provided by Samagra Shiksha, including wheelchairs, tricycles, hearing aids, calipers and educational support devices. The camps not only identified individual needs but also raised awareness among schools and families about essential resources for children’s development and education.

Samagra Shiksha State Project Director Rajesh Sharma said the organisation was committed to the holistic development of children with special needs and such activities played a crucial role in ensuring inclusive education and equal opportunities for quality education and learning.
