Candidates campaigned door to door in the Arki Assembly segment today. As only five people, including the candidate, are permitted for door-to-door campaigning, both parties organised their teams to approach the electorate personally. BJP’s Rattan Pal Singh today campaigned in his home turf Domehar, besides visiting Arki, Manju and nearby areas. Congress candidate Sanjay Awasthi campaigned in the Darlaghat belt to reaffirm the support of the voters.
Personal contacts were also used to garner support. Both Rattan Pal Singh and Sanjay Awasthi have suffered one electoral defeat each, and are keen to win the byelection. They are seeking one chance to prove themselves before the next Assembly elections.
To make the most of the situation, the voters are also seeking promises for their pending personal works.
Meanwhile, the police have stepped up surveillance in the area. “Drone surveillance is being maintained over five polling stations identified as critical. Four drone cameras have been deployed in the constituency to keep watch over the strongroom as well as the counting centres,” said SP, Solan, Virender Sharma.
About 700 men comprising policemen, Home Guard jawans and 130 sleuths from the ITBP and the SSB have been deployed on poll duty.
