One person was killed while another sustained injuries when the car they were travelling in on the Ghumarwin-Sarkaghat road in Mandi district today fell into a gorge.
According to the police, the incident took place around 3.30 am near Palasi in Mandi when a Maruti Swift car (HR 85D-6421) veered off the road at a sharp curve and fell into the gorge. “At the time of the mishap, two persons were travelling in the car. The deceased has been identified as Praveen Kumar (34), a native of Chamyar village in Sarkaghat tehsil of Mandi,” the police said.
“Parveen Kumar was driving the car when the accident occurred. Both persons were initially taken to the Civil Hospital, Baldwara, in a 108 Ambulance. However, the Medical Officer at the hospital declared Parveen Kumar dead upon arrival. Injured Kiran Kumar is admitted to the hospital,” said a police officer.
He said, “The body was handed over to the bereaved family after a post-mortem examination. An FIR has been lodged under Sections 281, 125A, and 106 of the IPC. The case is being investigated,” he added.
