In a tragic mishap, a medical intern of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Government Medical College (PJNGMC), Chamba, died and one went missing after the car they were travelling in skidded off the road and plunged into Ravi River near Parel on the outskirts of Chamba town in the wee hours of Sunday.

Two other interns were also injured in the accident. The deceased intern was identified as Abhishek (25), a resident of Hamirpur, while Ishika (23), hailing from Rohru in Shimla district went missing after she was swept away in the strong current of the river. Two other interns Rishant Mastana (26) from Shimla and Divyank (23) from Solan were injured and admitted to the PJNGMC, Chamba.

Abhishek Yadav, Superintendent of Police (SP), Chamba, said a rescue team was rushed to the spot immediately after receiving information. He said search was on for the missing intern. Further details of the incident were awaited, the SP said.

The tragic incident cast a pall of gloom over the medical fraternity in Chamba, with colleagues and faculty members of the medical college deeply shocked by the loss of life of the intern.
