The accident took place when Reenu was going to Chanju to attend a local wrestling fair. It was on the way that Chain Lal had requested her for a lift. After covering some distance, Reenu lost control of the vehicle and it plunged into a deep gorge.

Upon hearing a loud bang, eyewitnesses rushed to the spot. They immediately informed the police and began rescuing the injured.

Reenu and Chain Lal were taken to the Civil Hospital in Tissa. Unfortunately, Lal succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital and was declared brought dead by doctors. Reenu, who sustained serious injuries, was given first aid and was later referred to Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru Government Medical College, Chamba.

Locals rue that the spot where accident took place lacks basic road safety infrastructure such as parapets or crash barriers and the road is still unpaved. Salooni DSP Ranjan Sharma said a case has been registered.
