Shimla District Magistrate Anupam Kashyap has issued an order under Section 163 of the Indian Civil Defense Code, 2023, prohibiting the carrying of any firearms and ammunition within the jurisdiction of Nankhari from August 26 to August 31.

This order applies to individuals, residents, organisations and NGOs. It does not apply to police, paramilitary forces, security forces, government or semi-government personnel, or bank security personnel while on duty. The DM said all licensed firearms in Nankhari tehsil must be deposited at the Nankhari police station by or before August 26, and will remain deposited until August 31.

This order has been issued in light of the instructions passed by the High Court, directing the revenue authorities concerned to identify and demarcate encroached government land accurately. Most of the encroached areas in Nankhari have turned into mini-markets.

During the encroachment removal drive from August 27 to August 31 (as per the deadline set by the High Court), there is a possibility of a serious law and order situation arising, which has led to the imposition of this ban.
