In a bid to ensure the timely repair of the caved-in portion of the Kalka-Shimla highway near Datiyar, the Additional DC (ADC) and the SDM, Solan, conducted a joint inspection.

ADC Vivek Chandel, after the visit to the site, revealed that the stretch had caved-in as a culvert had been damaged. The repair work had begun and excavation of debris was under way to re-start the foundation work. The staff deployed at the site said they would undertake need-based measures to restore the road. He said the lane facing the hill side was open to traffic.

The monsoon could, however, pose problems in its restoration as besides causing more damage to the excavated portion, it would delay the work.

With the apple transportation season being on the peak, hundreds of trucks used the road on a daily basis.

Though GR Infraprojects, which is four-laning the Parwanoo-Solan highway, was trying to complete the work at the earliest, such problems slow down its pace every monsoon.— TNS
