Centenary celebrations begin at St Edward’s School
Centenary celebrations commenced at St Edward’s School here marking a remarkable 100-year journey of shaping young minds and fostering leadership.
Ambassador Manpreet Vohra, an esteemed alumnus and distinguished Indian diplomat, was the chief guest on the occasion. Vohra has had an illustrious career of serving as India’s High Commissioner to Australia, Belize and Kenya as well as Ambassador to Mexico, Afghanistan, Peru and Bolivia. His feats epitomise the values of excellence, leadership and service that define the Edwardian spirit.
The event featured a ceremony to honour outstanding student achievers, which was attended by distinguished alumni, faculty members and esteemed guests. A highlight of the celebrations was the unveiling of ‘Centenary Tales’ by School Manager Fr Dexen Antony. This anthology, a compilation of students’ literary and artistic contributions, stands out as a tribute to Edwardian creativity and innovation.
An interactive session with former Edwardians, video messages reminiscing schooldays and the unveiling of the new school logo by the chief guest enriched the celebrations.
“As the school prepares for its Founder’s Day celebrations on Sunday, these centenary events reaffirm St. Edward’s commitment to academic brilliance, moral integrity and service to society,” said Fr Dexen Antony.
St Edward’s School, a beacon of academic excellence and holistic education, is one of the most prestigious all boys school. It has nurtured numerous distinguished personalities, who have made significant contributions to diverse fields. Its illustrious alumni include Hamid Ansari, former Vice President; Gen Bipin Rawat, India's first Chief of Defence Staff; Supreme Court Judge Justice Sanjay Karol; Supreme Court Judge (retd) Justice Deepak Gupta, Ajay Banga, President of the World Bank; Ashok Mangotra, former bureaucrat; and Maj Gen Neville Rasquinha. “Their achievements stand as a testament to the school's enduring legacy of excellence, leadership and service,” said Fr Antony.
As part of its grand celebrations, St Edward's School is set to unveil a special commemorative postal cover, marking 100 years of academic excellence and legacy. The official release will take place at the Office of the Senior Superintendent of Post, here tomorrow.
