Nurpur, August 31
A team of the Central Water Commission led by director Wasim Ashraf yesterday inspected the proposed Rs 247-crore Sukhahar canal project barrage site in Jawali Assembly constituency. Vikas Bakshi, Superintending Engineer, Jal Shakti Department (JSD), Nurpur circle, and local officials of the department accompanied the team.
The JSD officials briefed the CWC team that 146 hectares of land would be irrigated through the flow of the proposed canal and 2,040 hectares would be irrigated through lift schemes.
The project would benefit around 10,000 farmers, they added. Four lift irrigation schemes would be constructed and water from the Sukhahar canal would be used to provide irrigation facilities to beneficiaries through distributary channels in the fields.
Meanwhile, the SE told The Tribune that Rs 247.21 crore Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the project was cleared by the State Technical Advisory Committee (STAC) on August 13 and it was likely to get a nod from the State-Level Scheme Sanctioning Committee (SLSC) in September.
He said the DPR would then be submitted to the state and Central water commissions for financial approval. “The inclusion of the project in the Prime Minister Krishi Sinchayee Yojana in March will facilitate its early approval by the Central Government,” he added.
The CWC team also inspected the ongoing construction work of the Phina Singh canal project in Nurpur Assembly constituency.
