Centre closely monitoring flood situation, says Anurag in Dharampur
Hamirpur MP and former Union Minister Anurag Thakur today visited the disaster-affected areas of the Dharampur Assembly segment in Mandi district to assess extensive damage caused by recent torrential rain and flashfloods.
Anurag called the situation “deeply painful” and expressed concern over the widespread destruction of infrastructure caused by heavy rain, cloudbursts, flashfloods and landslides. “It is heart-breaking to see the beautiful landscape of Dharampur suffering so much. Natural disasters have caused unimaginable devastation in several parts of the state, including Dharampur,” he said. The Central Government was closely monitoring the situation and would extend all possible assistance to the affected people, he added.
Anurag interacted with the disaster-affected families, offered them condolences and assured them of full support. He also reviewed damage caused to public infrastructure and private properties, including roads, shops and local transport services.
He was accompanied by Rajat Thakur, BJP leader from Dharampur, who briefed him about the scale of destruction. Rajat said that the disaster struck during the Sair festival on Monday night, turning the moments of celebration into grief. “Public and private properties, including HRTC buses, local bus stand and numerous shops in low-lying areas, have been severely damaged or destroyed,” he added.
Rajat informed the MP that two people were still missing in the aftermath of the floods. He urged Anurag to take up the matter of adequate financial relief with the Central Government. He emphasised the need for rehabilitation and long-term restoration efforts.
Both leaders agreed that while the local administration had initiated the relief work, the situation demanded immediate intervention by the Central Government. They called for the release of emergency funds to restore damaged infrastructure and compensate the affected families without delay.
