State Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Nandita Gupta, during her two-day visit to Sirmaur district, engaged with residents of the Shillai Assembly Constituency and emphasised the transparency of the election process in Himachal Pradesh. Addressing a gathering at Kaffota, she pointed out the gender disparity in the voter list, stating that the female voter ratio in Shillai remains lower compared to men.
She said the visit was part of a special campaign to raise electoral awareness among women in Shillai. “Our focus is to encourage more women to participate in the democratic process. Local bodies have a crucial role in spreading awareness and increasing voter registration,” Gupta said.
Highlighting recent efforts, the CEO said a targeted policy is in place to improve women voter registration. Shillai constituency has 111 polling booths, each with an appointed Booth Level Officer (BLO). She urged unregistered voters to contact BLOs, the election tehsil office, or SDM offices for registration.
Gupta also instructed officials to ensure the online registration of voters residing outside the constituency and to collect gender-wise voter data. She directed that BLOs must visit households to fill Form-6 for those whose names are missing from the electoral rolls.
Later, the CEO visited Government Senior Secondary School, Kandiyari, in Gram Panchayat Balikoti, where she held an interaction with local women to understand the challenges in voter registration. During the visit, 64 women successfully completed the voter registration process on the spot with the help of BLOs.
