Chamba celebrates voters’ day with call for youth participation
A district-level event marking the 15th National Voters’ Day was held at the historic Akhand Chandi Palace’s Darbar Hall in Chamba. The event, themed “Nothing Like Voting, I Vote for Sure,” was chaired by Mukesh Repaswal, Deputy Commissioner and District Electoral Officer.
Addressing the gathering, Repaswal extended best wishes to the people of Chamba on both National Voter’s Day and Himachal Pradesh’s Statehood Day. He urged young people, particularly future voters, to understand the importance of voting and to always exercise their right to vote. He stressed casting votes based on merit is crucial for the region’s development and urged the youth to seek guidance from their parents on this important civic duty.
Repaswal also highlighted the upcoming elections for Panchayati Raj institutions and local bodies, urging all voters, including young people, to actively participate in these elections. He reminded those turning 18 to ensure their names are added to the voter list, allowing them to become part of the vital electoral process.
A video message from the Chief Election Commissioner of India was screened during the event, while Repaswal administered an oath to attendees, underscoring the importance of voting and voter awareness. He also presented voter photo identity cards to future voters. To add a cultural touch, students from various educational institutions performed engaging programmes throughout the event.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Chamba SDM Priyanshu Khati, Joint Director of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Government Medical College Keshav Ram, Principal Dr Pankaj Gupta, Tehsildar Revenue Dikshit Rana, Assistant Engineer Electricity Hansraj Chauhan, OSD Higher Education Umakant Anand and Tehsildar Elections Anoop Dogra.
