Chamba DC calls for united push to boost sports infra, talent
Deputy Commissioner Mukesh Repaswal has underscored the need for stronger collaboration between district-level sports associations and government departments to create a wider platform for sports development across Chamba.
Chairing a meeting of the District Sports Council on Friday, Repaswal stressed the pivotal role of sports in channelling youth energy into positive pursuits and urged all stakeholders to work collectively to foster a vibrant sporting culture throughout the district.
Addressing representatives of various sports associations, the DC called for proactive identification of sporting talent — particularly in rural areas — and the expansion of training facilities. He also directed the District Youth Services and Sports Officer to compile a list of volunteers interested in contributing to sports training programmes.
In alignment with the Khelo India initiative, Repaswal instructed officials to take necessary steps to increase the number of sports centres in the district. A notable development from the meeting was the DC’s proposal for the District Cycling Association to submit a plan for developing a cycling track from the revered Pohlani Mata Temple to Jot near Khajjiar. He also suggested organising a national-level cycling event along this scenic route.
Regarding cricket, the DC recommended that the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) prioritise the establishment of additional training centres in the Chuwari, Salooni and Tissa subdivisions to nurture emerging talent.
After hearing inputs from various sports representatives on development needs and current challenges, Repaswal assured full administrative support to upgrade the district’s sports infrastructure and activities.
The council also passed a resolution to allocate 10 per cent of the revenue generated through the temporary auction of Banikhet Sports Stadium during the upcoming Ashad Nag Fair towards the stadium’s maintenance. Additionally, usage charges for hosting sports and non-sports events at the venue were finalised.
In a move to protect the stadium’s environment and improve accessibility, the DC instructed officials concerned to place matters related to land demarcation and regulation of vehicular movement near Banikhet Stadium before the SDM of Dalhousie. The meeting was attended by Maj SC Nayyar from the Veteran Cricket Association, Manuj Sharma (Apex Member, HPCA) and several other sports association representatives.
