Chamba Red Cross Society provides Rs 13-L aid to patients in 4 years

The District Red Cross Society, Chamba, has proven to be a boon in serving humanity and alleviating the suffering of the underprivileged. With unwavering dedication, the organisation is providing a range of essential services to people.

Deputy Commissioner and president of the District Red Cross Society, Chamba, Mukesh Repaswal, said the society was committed to assisting the needy and helpless by providing financial aid and free medicines during emergencies.

“Through its clinical laboratory and mobile health van, it offers various diagnostic examinations, including blood, urine, thyroid and vitamin tests, using computerised equipment. The facility also provides cancer diagnosis services,” he said.

Since 2021, the District Red Cross Society has extended financial assistance of approximately Rs 13 lakh to 562 underprivileged individuals for better healthcare services, said Repaswal.

He added that during the financial year 2023-24, the clinical laboratory at the district headquarters conducted tests for 9,105 patients at minimal charges. Besides, 438 patients availed blood tests and ECG services provided by the District Red Cross Society at Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Government Medical College, Chamba.

The Physiotherapy Unit at the medical college has also benefitted 6,817 patients in 2023-24, offering treatment at a nominal fee of just Rs 50 per patient.

To enhance medical facilities, the society has provided two ambulances for patient transportation at the medical college. A mobile health van has been handed over to the Chief Medical Officer’s office, facilitating medical tests and check-ups for people in remote areas of the district.

Repaswal emphasised that the primary objectives of the society are to safeguard life and health while upholding human dignity. The society is dedicated to supporting the needy by providing artificial limbs, wheelchairs, crutches, walking sticks and hearing aids. Free health and blood donation camps are also organised regularly.
