Chamba sets March 31 deadline to complete disaster mitigation works

Chamba Deputy Commissioner Mukesh Repaswal on Monday presided over a meeting to assess the progress of ongoing disaster mitigation and structural strengthening works in the district under the State Disaster Mitigation Fund.

Repaswal directed the Executive Engineers of the Public Works Department, Jal Shakti Department and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to ensure that all approved disaster mitigation and retrofitting projects were completed by March 31. He stressed the timely execution of all works, particularly those aimed at strengthening critical infrastructure under the Disaster Mitigation Fund.

He said that the State Executive Committee had approved 161 projects under the Disaster Mitigation Fund for Chamba district. Of these, around 80 projects were currently in progress, while departmental formalities were being completed for the remaining works. He instructed the officials concerned to expedite all pending tender processes to ensure the timely completion of the projects.

The Superintending Engineers and the Executive Engineers of the PWD, National Highways and the Jal Shakti Department shared detailed updates on the status of the ongoing projects, funds utilised so far and targets set for the coming months. A detailed discussion was also held on structural retrofitting works. Officials highlighted the existing structural gaps, corrective measures being taken and the technologies being adopted to enhance the safety and resilience of government buildings and other infrastructure.
