The condition of the national highway at Chambaghat in Solan is going from bad to worse day by day as its four-laning work has deprived it of even the basic repair. Big potholes can be seen dotting its surface and these get filled with water whenever it rains. This adds to the woes of the commuters as along with the uncomfortable journey, it leads to the wear and tear of vehicles. It is surprising how such glaring defects go unnoticed by the administration. The road should be repaired well before the onset of the rains to avoid further damage. — Neelam, Solan

No letup in illegal mining

Despite repeated complaints to the police and Jaisinghpur administration, there is no letup in illegal mining here, making lives of local residents miserable. The stone crushers, which are dependant on illegal extraction of stones from the Beas, are functioning round the clock. Students cannot study while elders cannot sleep the whole night due to the noise. Besides, there is large-scale dust and pollution in the area, resulting in various pulmonary diseases among residents. The issue was brought to the notice of the Kangra DC and the SP time and again but no action had been taken against the mining mafia. The local MLA was also apprised of the problem but he too seemed helpless. The government must tighten the noose around illegal stone crushers in Jaisinghpur. — Rakesh Kaundal, Jaisinghpur

Drain damaging private land

A drain of waste water that flows alongside my land in Ward No. 13 of the Dharamsala Municipal Corporation (DMC) is damaged, which in turn is spoiling my property. Whenever it rains, murky water flows through the drain, washing along my piece of land. I have made written representations to the DMC many times to construct a retaining wall along the drain so that my land is not damaged. However, till date, the MC authorities have not paid any heed to my requests. I shall request the authorities to construct a retaining wall along the drain so that the private land of residents is not damaged. — Chajju Ram Sharma, Ward No 13, Dharamsala
