Chamba, July 30

The National Hydro Electric Power Corporation (NHPC) authorities would be releasing water from its Chamera-III power project reservoir at Kharamukh in Bharmour subdivision of Chamba district on July 31 and August 1. Water would be released from 11 pm on July 31 till 2 pm on August 1 depending on the additional inflow into the dam’s reservoir, said Anil Kumar, General Manager in-charge (Electricity), Chamera-3 power station.

Kumar explained that during silt flushing, the gates of the Chamera-III dam at Kharamukh would be gradually opened to release water until the river returns to free flow. During this process, there was a possibility of increased water levels in the Ravi river downstream of the Chamera-III dam, he said.
