After relentless efforts of the Mandi district administration and the National Highways Authority of India since Saturday morning, the Chandigarh-Manali highway was finally restored for traffic movement. The highway was blocked at Dwada in Mandi following a massive landslide.

Landslide blocked road

  • The road was blocked due to massive landslide at Dwada in Mandi
  • After the highway was restored, around 1,000 stranded vehicles were able to move out of the area
  • Preventive measures will be taken at night in view of public safety as the area is prone to landslides

Mandi Deputy Commissioner Rugved Thakur said after the highway was restored for traffic movement on Sunday evening, around 1,000 stranded vehicles were able to move out of the area.

The DC stated that preventive measures would be taken in night hours in view of public safety because the area is prone to landslides between Pandoh and Aut on the Chandigarh-Manali highway.

Superintendent of Police, Mandi, Shalini Agnihotri said, “The police have been deployed at Dwada for night patrolling to monitor the traffic movement minutely. People have been asked to avoid unnecessary visit in night hours on this highway because the area is prone to landslides. It was raining heavily in the region, which makes this road risky for driving.”

The SP said in night hours, the traffic movement would be allowed in a restricted way, depending on the weather. The police have been diverting traffic via Kataula, the alternate route between Mandi and Kullu.
