Charas seized, Jaisinghpur man gets six-month jail
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on the accused
Judicial Magistrate (First Class), Jaisinghpur, Nikita Tahim on Tuesday convicted Sanjeev Kumar of possessing ‘charas’ and sentenced him to six months of rigorous imprisonment. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on Tahim, a resident of Ward No.3, in Jaisinghpur of Kangra. He will undergo an additional 30 days of simple imprisonment if he defaults on the fine payment.
Assistant Public Prosecutor Rabinder Chaudhary said that the accused was apprehended with 44.25 grams of ‘charas’ at Tikkari Tarkhan Nallah in Jaisinghpur tehsil on December 18, 2020.
A case was registered against him at the Lambagaon police station.
With two major recoveries in a short spell of time, the Kangra police have reaffirmed its commitment to acting tough with liquor smugglers, SP Ashok Rattan said. He added that no leniency would be shown towards those involved in the illicit trade of alcohol and narcotics.
