The founding Director of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Mandi, Prof Timothy A. Gonsalves, completed his extended tenure of over 10 years and retired today. Prof Ajit K. Chaturvedi, Director, IIT, Roorkee, would take charge from Timothy, 66, as Acting Director tomorrow.

Under Timothy’s leadership, the IIT, Mandi, scaled new heights of innovation, entrepreneurial ecosystem, quality faculty, high-end research, global collaborations with academia and the industry, unique curriculum and teaching methods.

He put the IIT, Mandi, on the global map. To choose the best strategy for the development of the institute, Timothy took inspiration from some of the best institutes of the world such as the University of Stuttgart, Germany; California Institute of Technology, USA; Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA; Stanford University, USA, and the National University of Singapore, Singapore.
