In an effort to boost tourism and highlight Shimla’s historic connection with England, Shimla Mayor Surender Chauhan has extended an invitation to London Mayor Sadiq Khan to visit the Himachal Pradesh capital. Once the summer capital of British India, Shimla holds significant historical ties with England and the Mayor believes that Khan’s visit could help further strengthen these connections.

In a letter addressed to the Mayor of London, Chauhan emphasised that Shimla has been home to many prominent Britishers, serving as a key administrative and cultural hub during the colonial era. He pointed out that the Municipal Corporation of Shimla is one of the oldest municipalities in the country, further underlining the town’s deep-rooted association with England.
