Industries, Labour and Employment Minister Harshwardhan Chauhan said here today that the Himachal Pradesh Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board had provided benefits worth crores of rupees to registered workers during the current fiscal. “About 3.17 lakh workers have been registered with the board and the state government has implemented 13 welfare schemes for their uplift and empowerment,” he added.

The minister said that Rs 51,000 each was being provided for the marriage of the registered beneficiary and the marriage of his two children. He added that a financial assistance of Rs 50,000 to Rs 5 lakh for medical treatment a the beneficiary and his/her dependents, from Rs 8,400 to Rs 1.20 lakh for the education of the beneficiary’s children from Class I to PhD, pension of Rs 1,000 per month on the completion of 60 years of age of the beneficiary and disability pension of Rs 500 was being provided in the case of disability of the beneficiary in an accident or illness.

The minister said that on the death of a registered worker, the board provided an assistance of Rs 2 lakh to Rs 4 lakh to the dependents. “Under the Daughter Birth Gift Scheme, Rs 51,000 each is provided on the birth of two daughters of the beneficiary,” he said.

Chauhan said the allegations levelled by some workers that they were not getting financial benefits were baseless. The registration of new workers and their renewal were also being done by the board, he added. — TNS
