Children to be given deworming medicines, Vitamin A supplements

Deputy Commissioner Mukesh Repaswal on Tuesday said the first phase of a district-level deworming drive to mark National Deworming Day would be conducted on August 9, during which children would be administered Albendazole, a deworming medicine, and Vitamin A supplements in all educational institutions and Anganwadi centres.
A mop-up round would be organised on August 16 as part of the campaign, he added.
He was presiding over a meeting held to review the activities of various departments in preparation of National Deworming Day.
Repaswal reviewed the action plan prepared by the Health Department for the event, and provided necessary directions to the departmental officers.
He gave directions regarding the roles and responsibilities of various departments and institutions involved in the campaign.
He urged Panchayati Raj institutions to take necessary steps to raise awareness about deworming at the rural level.
He also instructed District Programme Officer (Child Development) Rakesh Chaudhary to ensure the active involvement of all Anganwadi workers during the campaign.
Repaswal directed the Deputy Directors (Elementary and Higher Education) to ensure the attendance of all school students on August 9.
The District Health Officer, Dr Jalam Bhardwaj, said 16,498 children aged 6-19 years would be administered Albendazole in the district. As many as 48,467 infants and children up to 5 years of age would also be administered the medicine, and Vitamin A supplements, he added.
