Wrongly parked vehicles cause traffic jams

One has to endure traffic jams while crossing through the lower Totu, Shimla, almost every day, especially in the mornings and evenings. Police highhandedness

A youth was mercilessly beaten up by the police in Theog when his car accidentally hit a police vehicle. The injuries were such that he had to be hospitalised. The incident showcases the mindset with which the police work. Such incidents are rare in Himachal so the higher-ups should make an example of punishing the erring policemen to ensure such incidents do not happen again. – Sohan Verma, Theog

International lecture on disaster management (pic)

To stress the need of having a disaster-free world, the Himachal Pradesh National Law University, Shimla, in collaboration with the India International Intellectual Society, New Delhi (IIIS), organised an international lecture under its International Distinguished Lectures Series. The lecture on ‘International Conference and Leadership Matters in Disaster Crisis Management’ was delivered by Om Prakash Singh, former Indian Police Officer and DG, National Disaster Response Force. In his lecture, Om Prakash stressed the need for international collaborative efforts to mitigate the impact of disasters on communities. Prof Nishtha Jaswal, Vice-Chancellor, HPNLU, delivered the welcome address. The event also witnessed the bestowing of honours on two personalities. Prof Jaswal honoured Prof Rajendra Parihar, former head, Department of Geography, University of JNVU, Jodhpur, for his lifetime contributions to rural community development and disaster crisis management. Om Prakash Singh honoured Marianela Mirpuri, CEO of Hera, Portugal, for her efforts to make the world less vulnerable to impacts of disasters.

SFI extends support to agitating farmers

The SFI state committee has extended its support to farmers protesting the farm laws in Delhi. The committee said it would hold a statewide protest in solidarity with the farmers. SFI members said the actions of the Centre and the Haryana Government to “suppress” the farmers was unfortunate and they had made it clear that they were with corporates, not farmers.

Nurpur students excel

Students of Noorpur Public School, Nurpur, gave a good account of themselves in the online Children’s Science Congress 2020, organised by HIMCOSTE. All 12 participating students from the school secured top positions in different activities. Out of them, 10 students will represent Nurpur block in the district level in December. In the junior section, Arushi and Pragati stood first in science quiz, Drishti Sen took the first spot in science activity corner and Ayushi stood first in Mathematics Olympiad. In the senior wing, Arunima Kaushal and Aditya Chauhan stood first in science quiz, Manaswin Kath first in science activity corner and Saksham Singh stood first in Mathematics Olympiad. In the senior secondary wing, Manan and Muskam took the second position in science quiz, Rishab second in science activity corner and Sparsh Mahajan first in Mathematics Olympiad.
