Waiting for metalled road with photograph

Residents of Basa-Kanoti village in the Dol gram panchayat in Jawali subdivision have been waiting for a metalled road for the past two decades. The 1.5 km-long kachha road connecting this remote village with the metalled road was built 20 years ago. Residents are facing a lot of inconvenience as the road connectivity gets affected during the monsoon season. A temporary culvert built across the Basa khud by the Public Works Department also gets washed away during the monsoon every year, forcing villagers to cross the flooded khud risking their lives. The state government should redress this problem. –Bakil Singh and Hakam Singh, residents of Basa-Kanoti

No potable water

Residents of Karsha village under the Behna panchayat in Kullu district are facing an acute shortage of potable water for the past few days. The water source from where the Irrigation and Public Health Department was providing the supply to the villagers has dried up. Until the problem is fixed, the IPH Department should make alternative arrangements to provide potable water to residents. Without the water supply, it is getting very difficult to manage the situation. –Bharat Bhushan, resident of Karsha village

On the occasion of International Criminal Justice Day, the School of Law, Shoolini University, launched a ‘Knowledge sharing series’ in which legal luminaries like jurists, advocates, academicians and corporate professionals would be interviewed on topics like cybercrime, fundamental rights, human rights, etc. Prof Sebastian Lafrance from Canada addressed the first session on ‘How similar are Indian and Canadian laws?’. He said India and Canada are long-lost siblings as there are many similarities in their laws. He added that in the field of criminal laws, there are various differences and similarities.
