The Shimla Municipal Corporation (MC) is set to conduct a geological survey of Boileauganj-Chakkar link road which has visible cracks. As per locals, around 500 metre stretch of the road is facing a threat of subsidence as cracks have developed on it. Locals have claimed that cracks have been appearing on the road for the past few years.

The matter was also raised by Boileauganj councillor Daleep Thapa who urged the corporation to take immediate action to protect the road by restoring it. Recently, during the monthly General House meeting of the corporation, Thapa presented a proposal, urging the civic authorities to conduct inspection of the site to find out reasons behind development of cracks and then start restoration work of the road.

He said, “Cracks have been appearing on the road. It is a matter of concern. This road is very important as it links Boileauganj with Chakkar and provides a shorter alternative to the people to commute between the two localities.”

“Hundreds of people commute on this road on a daily basis. Therefore, it is important to take immediate action to restore the road to prevent any kind of mishap. Though the affected road falls under the jungle area, chances of its subsidence could badly affect the traffic movement in the town as the stretch is just above the National Highway,” he said.

Taking his demand into consideration, the corporation will now conduct a geological survey of the stretch and find out exact reasons which led to development of cracks on the route. Following the geological survey a report will be prepared and further action to restore it will be taken. The corporation has assured that the restoration work of the road will be initiated on priority basis so that people do not face any inconvenience.
