The Food and Civil Supplies Department of Sirmaur has intensified its crackdown on food-related irregularities, the illegal use of polythene and the unauthorised use of domestic LPG cylinders in commercial establishments. As part of this initiative, a special inspection team conducted a surprise raid in Dadhau town, creating a stir among local traders.

As soon as the department’s team began inspecting shops for polythene usage and checking LPG cylinders in restaurants and eateries, news of the raid spread rapidly across Dadhau. Some shopkeepers rushed to shut their shutters, while others were caught violating regulations and faced fines.

During the raid, three domestic LPG cylinders were seized from eateries using them unlawfully instead of commercial cylinders. The team also inspected fruit and vegetable vendors’ shops, ensuring compliance with food safety standards. Additionally, traders found using polythene bags were fined a total of Rs 5,500.

“Our primary goal is to prevent any compromise on public health and to strictly enforce the ban on polythene usage. Unauthorised use of domestic LPG cylinders in commercial setups is a serious violation, and action has been taken accordingly,” said the official.

This crackdown by the department highlights the government’s commitment to enforcing food safety regulations and environmental protection laws. More such surprise inspections are expected in the coming weeks to ensure strict compliance across the district.
