Earlier this morning, the Chief Minister visited the IGMC for a check-up after experiencing palpitation. While the doctors at the IGMC said that his reports, including the ECG and the Echo, were normal, he left for Delhi later in the day and was admitted to AIIMS. “His reports were normal, and we did not refer him to AIIMS or any other hospital,” IGMC principal Dr Surinder Singh said.

Thakur had many engagement scheduled for the day, but all had to be cancelled.

Meanwhile, protesting doctors decided to continue with their pen-down strike after their scheduled meeting with the Chief Minister with regard to their demands was cancelled.

“We will continue with the two-hour pen-down strike everyday till the Chief Minister returns to Shimla. However, we will not scale it up into a full-fledged strike until he resumes duty,” said Dr Pushpender Verma, secretary of Himachal Medical Officers Association.

The doctors are demanding the implementation of the Punjab pay scales in totality and 25 per cent NPA on their basic pay.

The contentious issue of the 108/102 Contract Workers Union finally appears to be heading towards a resolution. It was decided in a meeting between the National Health Mission (NHM) Managing Director, representatives of the company, which operates ambulances services in the state, MLA Rakesh Singha and CITU state president Vijender Mehra, that the workers, who have not been given offer letters by the new company, will be absorbed in the company within two months. The new company has not given offer letters to around 200 employees, who had worked with the previous company. These people have been protesting outside the NHM office in Shimla for over two weeks.
