Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu conducted an on-ground assessment of the flood and landslide-affected areas in Sujanpur constituency of the district near here today.
Reaffirming the state government’s commitment to providing immediate and sustained support to the affected population, the CM said that government would ensure that not even a single person is left unattended.
During his visit to Khairi and adjoining villages, the Chief Minister reviewed the extensive damage caused by recent calamities. He later inspected the severely affected area of Chabutra village, where land subsidence has displaced several families.
Interacting with the victims, the CM assured them of full government assistance and announced a relief package. Sukhu said that each displaced family in Chabutra would get Rs 8.7 lakh in aid including Rs 7 lakh from the state government for the reconstruction of homes, Rs 70,000 for essential household items and additional Rs 1 lakh announced by MLA of Sujanpur constituency, Captain Ranjit Singh, as personal assistance.
Sukhu said, “The state government stands firmly with every affected family in this hour of distress. Our focus is not only on immediate relief but also on long-term rehabilitation.” He added that damage assessments are underway across other parts of the district and relief measures are being extended accordingly.
CM Sukhu said that the state government would take up the issue of safe land allocation for reconstruction with the Centre, particularly focusing on the transfer of suitable forest land. A detailed memorandum outlining the total monsoon-related losses in Himachal Pradesh is also being prepared for submission to the Centre.
Later, the Chief Minister held a public outreach programme at Kutheda, where he heard grievances from local residents and directed officials to ensure timely resolution. MLA Suresh Kumar, Chairman of Kangra Central Cooperative Bank Ram Chandra Pathania, state Nasha Nivaran Board Coordinator Naresh Thakur, senior Congress leader Dr Pushpender Verma, Deputy Commissioner Amarjeet Singh, Superintendent of Police Bhagat Singh Thakur were also present during the visit.
The staff and students of government senior secondary school, Nalti, near here, handed over a cheque of Rs 1 lakh to the Chief Minister at NIT helipad today. The money was collected and contributed by the students of the school under an initiative by the NCC unit of the school earlier this month.
Devender Singh Banyal, NCC officer of the school, said that the students and NCC cadets not only contributed the money out of their pocket money but they also motivated other villagers to make a contribution towards the CM relief fund. He said that even the school staff made contributions to round up the donation amount to Rs 1 lakh. The CM appreciated the concern of the students and staff of the school.
Earlier, at Jungle Beri helipad, the CM made some children enjoy a joyride in his chopper. When the children asked the CM to see the chopper from up close, he not only allowed them to board the chopper but also directed the pilots to give them a short ride.
