“Despite financial challenges, our government has been successful in improving the revenue of the state by 20 per cent”, said Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu while addressing a public meeting during the ‘Sarkar Gaon Ke Dwar’ programme at Bijhri village in the Barsar Assembly constituency in Hamirpur district today.

He said that BJP leaders did politics even in distressed situations. He added that the previous BJP government had taken Rs 14,000 crore loans in the last year of its tenure and announced the setting up of over 9,000 institutions without making any budgetary provision for their operational expenses only to garner votes in the Vidhan Sabha elections. He added that similarly, BJP leaders indulged in politics when the rain disaster hit the state and over 4,000 houses were completely damaged and 12,000 partially.

Sukhu said that former Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur talked about providing financial help to disaster-affected people but when the Congress government brought a resolution in the Assembly to declare the rain fury as a national disaster he along with other BJP MLAs did not support it. He added that even three BJP MPs maintained stoic silence over the issue.

He reiterated that the government had submitted Rs 10,000 crore claims to the Central Government but BJP leaders created obstacles in the grant of funds. He alleged that they also created obstacles in getting the state’s share of Rs 4,300 crore from the BBMB.

Sukhu said that the ‘Sarkar Gaon Ke Dwar’ programme was part of the earnest efforts of the government to redress the grievances of people and its success would be reflected in the upcoming budget.

He said that commerce and science classes would be started at government senior secondary schools at Barsar, Sohari, Dandaru, Ghanghot, Samtana Kulhera, Dhabiri and Loharli. He announced Rs 50 lakh for the construction of a bus stand at Barsar and the renovation of the Tal Stadium at Bijhri.

The Chief Minister inaugurated a Rs 7 crore bridge built on the Sukkar rivulet and the buildings of the Health Department and the Additional District Attorney at Barsar.

Chief Minister’s Political Adviser Sunil Sharma Bittu, Barsar MLA Inder Dutt Lakhanpal, former MLAs BD Lakhanpal, Manjit Dogra and former DCC president Rajinder Zar also attended the programme.

Barsar hospital bed capacity raised

  • Sukhu announced the opening of Jal Shakti Department and PWD subdivisions at Bijhri village, increasing the bed capacity of the Civil Hospital, Barsar, to 100 and setting up a 10-bed sub-health centre at Saloni
  • Sukhu laid the foundation stone of development projects worth Rs 150 crore for the Barsar constituency, including Rs 138 crore projects for augmenting various lift water supply schemes based on the Sutlej
