CM gets critically ill woman airlifted from remote Bada Bhangal
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu facilitated the swift airlifting of a critically ill woman, Nirmala Devi, from Bara Bhangal, one of the most remote areas in the Kangra district. Nirmala Devi had been unable to walk or eat for the past week, prompting an urgent need for medical intervention.
Following a request from local Panchayat representatives about the woman’s deteriorating condition on Saturday evening, the district administration immediately informed the state government. Chief Minister Sukhu responded quickly, directing the dispatch of a helicopter to airlift Nirmala Devi from the challenging terrain of Bada Bhangal to Gaggal Airport on Sunday morning. From there, she was transferred to Zonal Hospital, Mandi, for immediate treatment.
Baijnath legislator Kishori Lal confirmed the successful airlift and subsequent treatment, praising the CM’s prompt response in arranging the rescue operation. He emphasised that the timely intervention had saved the woman’s life, given the geographical challenges and the family’s inability to navigate the difficult terrain.
Bada Bhangal, situated in the rugged Himalayas of Kangra District, is one of the least accessible regions in Himachal Pradesh. The area’s steep slopes, dense forests, and lack of motorable roads make it accessible only via trekking routes, with Bir village being the nearest road ahead. This recent incident highlights the unique challenges faced by residents of remote regions.
