CM, Governor pay tributes to Ambedkar

Shimla: Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur today paid floral tributes to Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar on his 129th birth anniversary by garlanding his statue at Ambedkar Chowk at Chaura Maidan here. Education Minister Suresh Bhardwaj, Mayor of Shimla Satya Kaundal, Deputy Mayor Shailender Chauhan, Chief Minister’s Political Adviser Trilok Jamwal, Deputy Commissioner Amit Kashyap, and Municipal Corporation Commissioner Pankaj Rai also paid tributes. Governor Bandaru Dattatreya also offered tributes to Ambedkar. Later, he distributed food packets among the needy and over 20 families of migrant labourers, who are staying at temporary shelters near Raj Bhawan. TNS

Govt offices, varsities closed till May 3

Shimla: The government has extended the curfew till May 3. All government offices will continue to remain closed and all educational institutions, schools, colleges, universities, technical and vocational training institutions, ITIs, polytechnics engineering colleges, medical colleges, paramedical training institutes, anganwaris, creches, pre-nursery, schools in the public as well as private sector would also continue to remain closed. Legal aid to women during lockdown

Shimla: In order to provide legal assistance to women during the lockdown period, executive chairman of HP State Legal Service Authority (HPSLSA), Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan has nominated two women lawyers for each district for providing legal assistance to the state women, who are facing legal issues. This was stated by Prem Pal Ranta, member, secretary, HPSLSA. He further informed that the executive chairman has nominated Sunita Sharma, a senior advocate and Rita Goswami, a advocate for high court on rotational basis to attend such requests on their mobile numbers. He further informed that the HPSLSA has set up two helpline numbers 15100 and 0177-2623862. OC

Give aid to non-registered workers: Governor

Shimla: Governor Bandaru Dattatreya on Tuesday ordered to provide monthly financial assistance and one-month ration to non-registered workers. During a meeting with the Additional Chief Secretary of the Social Justice and Empowerment Department Nisha Singh, Dattatreya said keeping in view the current lockdown, the data of the non-registered workers and contractors should be maintained and efforts should be made to organise camps for the workers. Arrangements should be made for migrants who want to go back to their state after the lockdown is over. TNS

Private school waives fee for two months

Chamba: Bharatiya Public School, Samote in Sihunta tehsil of Chamba district, has waived fee of all students for April and May. In its communiqué here on Tuesday, the school manager said the fee, already deposited by some parents, would be adjusted in the coming months. OC

Cong leader contributes to Covid fund

Chamba: District Congress Committee (DCC) president Neeraj Nayar donated Rs 1.50 lakh towards the Covid relief fund of the state government. He presented a cheque for Rs 1 lakh to Deputy Commissioner Vivek Bhatia and another cheque for Rs 50,000 to SP Monika Bhutunguru. OC
