Shimla, July 16
Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur today virtually inaugurated from Shimla an EVM and VVPAT machines warehouse constructed at a cost of Rs 3.80 crore in Hamirpur.
He said that warehouses were being set up in all districts of the state so that EVM and VVPAT machines could be kept together at one place. The foundation of the warehouse was laid on December 6, 2019, and the Public Works Department had constructed it in record time.
Thakur said that earlier EVMs and VVPAT machines were kept in government colleges or schools, which required security-related arrangements. He added that as a result, the rooms of educational institutions were used for a long period, thus affecting students’ studies.
Deputy Commissioner, Hamirpur, Debasweta Banik gave a brief presentation about the warehouse. Manish Garg, Principal Secretary Education and Chief Electoral Officer, was present with the Chief Minister while Hamirpur MLA Narender Thakur attended the function in his constituency.
