CM releases calendar to mark 50 years of state pollution board

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu released the commemorative environmental calendar at Dharamsala in Kangra today, to mark the Golden Jubilee Year of the Himachal Pradesh State Pollution Control Board (HPPCB), which was established in 1974. This calendar outlines 50 key activities planned for the Golden Jubilee Year, demonstrating the board’s commitment to environmental protection and conservation within the state.

Anil Joshi, Member Secretary of the board, while talking to The Tribune said, “The environmental calendar outlines 50 key activities to celebrate 50 environmentally significant days between December 20, 2024, and December 21, 2025. A special commemorative event would be organised next year to mark the Golden Jubilee Year.” According to him, the board has planned to organise a wide spectrum of activities which include social media campaigns aimed at raising public awareness.

National and state events and festivals such as Republic Day, Himachal Day, Shivratri and Holi all find a mention in the calendar. Along with these, days of global significance such as Sparrow Day, World Heritage Day, Yoga Day and Earth Day have found a special place in the calendar. The board has planned to conduct many seminars and workshops along with plantation and cleanliness activities.

Education Minister Rohit Thakur, Deputy Speaker Vinay Kumar, Deputy Chief Whip Kewal Singh Pathania, MLAs — Sanjay Rattan, Sanjay Awasthy, Suresh Kumar, Sudarshan Babloo, Vivek Sharma, Malender Rajan, Hardeep Singh Bawa, Neeraj Nayyar, Additional Chief Secretary Onkar Chand Sharma and other senior officials were also present on the occasion.
