In a touching example of compassionate and people-centric leadership, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu transformed a long-cherished dream into a lifelong memory for underprivileged children from Dharamsala. As many as 160 students of Tong Len School, located in the Sarah area and catering largely to children from slum settlements and economically weaker families, were given the rare opportunity to watch the India-South Africa T20 International match live at the stadium.

The initiative stemmed from a personal assurance made by the Chief Minister during his recent visit to Dharamsala when the Assembly was in session. Staying true to his commitment, Sukhu ensured that these children, many of whom had never stepped inside a stadium, could experience the thrill, energy and magic of international cricket firsthand.

For the young students, the outing was nothing short of extraordinary. Watching their sporting idols in action, surrounded by roaring crowds and electrifying cheers, filled them with unfiltered joy and awe. Their beaming faces, applause and excitement spoke volumes about the emotional impact of the experience, one that extended far beyond a single match.

The children expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Chief Minister, sharing that it was the first time they had witnessed such a grand sporting spectacle up close. School authorities and parents also praised the gesture, noting that such inclusive initiatives instil confidence among children from marginalized communities and encourage them to dream beyond their circumstances.

More than a recreational outing, the gesture carried a powerful message. By reaching out to those on the margins, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu underscored the values of empathy, equality and inclusion. The initiative reaffirmed his belief that sensitive, people-focused governance can create meaningful change, sometimes simply by making a child’s dream come true.
