CM to lead walkathon against ‘chitta’ in Hamirpur on December 16

Over 10,000 people are expected to take part in the Mega Walkathon against ‘chitta’ (heroin) abuse to be held here on December 16, said Deputy Commissioner Amarjit Singh here today after rescheduling the route of the event.

He said that Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu would lead the walkathon that would commence from the ground of Shaheed Captain Mridul Sharma Memorial Boys Senior Secondary School and culminate at the Police Ground at Dosarka. He added that the walkathon would pass through the Nadaun Chowk, Gandhi Chowk, Main Bazaar, Bhota Chowk and the Hathli Khad Bridge before concluding at the Police Ground at Dosarka.

The Deputy Commissioner, at a meeting with senior district officials and representatives of various educational institutions, reviewed all necessary arrangements at both starting and concluding venues as well as along the walkathon route. He said that students of different educational institutions would take part in the event. The participants would gather at the school ground at 9 am, where the police orchestra “Harmony of Pines” would motivate and entertain them. He added that adequate drinking water facilities would be arranged at all entry gates while ambulances and toilet facilities would also be available. Necessary instructions had already been issued to the police, various departments and the Municipal Corporation.

He said that the Chief Minister and other participants would take an oath to oppose drug abuse, following which the walkathon would be flagged off. He added that at the Gandhi Chowk and the Bhota Chowk, the Himachal Pradesh Police and Home Guards bands would boost the morale of the participants. At the Police Ground, the Chief Minister would address the gathering.
