Sukhu, while presiding over the annual function of Rajiv Gandhi Government College at Chaura Maidan in Shimla, said that the government was also establishing Rajiv Gandhi Day Boarding Schools in a phased manner in each Assembly constituency. “As many as 10 of these schools will become operational in the next session. These institutions will be equipped with modern facilities like swimming pools, indoor stadiums and enhanced sports infrastructure,” he added.

Sukhu said that the objective of the state government was not only to provide degrees but to ensure quality education. “Institutions with low student enrollment or inadequate educational standards will be closed. To accommodate affected students, seats in nearby well-functioning institutions will be increased and the government will also bear the travelling expenses,” he added.

He said that in next five years, the education system of the state would be elevated to global standards. “The government is taking effective steps to set up one directorate for nursery to higher secondary,” he added. Sukhu announced that a central heating system would be installed in Rajiv Gandhi Government College. He also announced that postgraduate courses in economics, political science and English would be started in the college from the next academic session. He felicitated meritorious students of the college on the occasion.

Sukhu claimed that the previous BJP government had opened 900 institutions in the last six months of its tenure without making any budgetary provision. He said that his government was prioritising quality education to ensure students were well-prepared for future challenges. “Students from government educational institutions are second to none. I had studied in a government school and if I can become Chief Minister, any student of a government school can accomplish any goal,” he added.
