Himachal Gyan Vigyan Samiti to conduct survey on drug abuse
Shimla, February 18
A joint meeting of the Himachal Gyan Vigyan Samiti and Jan Swasthya Abhiyan was held in Sanjauli today. At the meeting, it was decided that the committee would conduct a survey and case study on drug abuse.
Himachal Kisan Sabha president Kuldeep Singh Tanwar said despite drug abuse being a serious problem, there was no concrete data available on it.
Dr Amit Sachdeva, assistant professor, Department of Community Medicine, Indira Gandhi Medical College, apprised the members present at the meeting of the technical aspects related to drug addiction. Synthetic drug use had increased amongst the youth, Sachdeva said.
“There is a stigma towards drug abuse in society. Due to this, the inferiority complex is increasing among the youth. Today’s youth is stressed and worried about their career. Also, many teenagers, who are unaware of the ill-effects of drugs, are getting trapped in it due to curiosity and bad company,”
Jan Swasthya Abhiyaan and Gyan Vigyan Samiti state convener Satyawan Pundir said there was a need to move away from the strategy of targeting the youth involved in drug abuse and regarding them as criminals.
