Former CM and LoP Jai Ram Thakur has lambasted the Congress for betrayal, saying that it backed out its poll guarantee of giving Rs 1,500 per month to women in 18-60 age group. Thakur was addressing mediapersons at Kandwal here today before opening a two-day meeting of the state working committee of the BJP mahila morcha.

He alleged that the Sukhu government had insulted the women by not fulfilling its poll promise of giving this money to 22 lakh women in the state. He had only enhanced monthly pension with small amount already being given to the women under the social security scheme. Thakur said the way the state government was harping on the loans taken during the BJP regime was ridiculous.

Terming the Sukhu government anti-people, he said it had denotified a large number of government institutions across the state following the demand and requirement of the people of that area. He asserted that being in the Opposition, the BJP would continue to raise the voice of people against “anti-people policies and decisions of the Congress government”. He asserted that people were disenchanted with the Congress government and would give a befitting reply to the party in the Lok Sabha polls next year.

State president of BJP Mahila Morcha Rashmi Dhar Sood said Rajya Sabha MP Indu Goswami would preside over the closing ceremony of the two-day morcha meeting on Monday. She said the meeting would conduct six sessions and its aim was to strengthen the organisation.
