A delegation of local leaders from the ruling Congress party met PWD Minister Vikramaditya Singh in Shimla this week, pressing for the early construction of the Uttarala-Holi road — a long-pending infrastructure demand in the region.

Led by Kisan Congress leader Trilok Suryavanshi, the delegation informed the minister that while 13 km of the road — from Uttarala to Fancha Paani — has already been constructed in the first phase, further progress is stalled. They pointed out that although the DPR (Detailed Project Report) for the next 5 km stretch from Fancha Nala to Parei has been prepared, PWD officials are delaying the tendering process.

Crucially, the delegation requested that a road be constructed instead of a tunnel, arguing that building a tunnel would threaten the existence of Jalsu Jot — a scenic and ecologically important pass with significant tourism potential. They emphasised the need to preserve its natural beauty and heritage.

Minister Vikramaditya Singh assured the delegation of his commitment to the project. He said he would personally visit the site soon to assess whether a road or tunnel would be the more feasible and sustainable option. He further promised that a final decision would be made within a month, after which construction work would resume.
