Cong disrespected ideals of Ambedkar, says Bharmour MLA
BJP Bharmour MLA Dr Janak Raj accused the Congress of consistently disregarding Dr BR Ambedkar’s principles and contributions to the nation. Speaking at the “Samvidhan Gaurav Abhiyan” event organised by BJP’s Trilochan Mahadev Block Unit in Bharmour, Dr Raj highlighted Ambedkar’s legacy and criticised Congress for failing to honour him appropriately.
Dr Raj referenced a 2012 incident under the UPA-2 government when an NCERT textbook featured a controversial illustration of Pandit Nehru flogging Dr Ambedkar. He questioned Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s silence on the matter, labelling it as insincerity. “Rahul Gandhi’s actions are political theatrics aimed at misleading the public,” he said.
The MLA also accused Congress of violating Ambedkar’s ideals by imposing the Emergency, disregarding women’s empowerment, undermining the judiciary, and disrespecting constitutional values. He alleged that Congress ignored Ambedkar’s contributions while naming numerous landmarks after members of the Nehru-Gandhi family, failing to establish a memorial for Ambedkar.
Dr Raj praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government for honoring Ambedkar’s legacy by developing five key sites associated with his life. These include a memorial in Mhow, Madhya Pradesh (Ambedkar’s birthplace), a London memorial (where he studied), Deekshabhoomi in Nagpur, Mahaparinirvana Sthal in Delhi, and Chaityabhoomi in Mumbai.
He commended the BJP government for upholding Ambedkar’s vision, implementing his policies, and strengthening the Constitution. Dr Raj emphasised that the BJP is committed to safeguarding Ambedkar’s ideals and continuing his legacy, in contrast to Congress’ alleged neglect.
