Addressing a press conference here today, Parmar said it is very unfortunate that successive Congress governments at the Centre did not give due recognition to Vande Mataram which reflects the party’s policy of pursuing minority appeasement. “Successive Congress regimes, both at the Centre and in many states, have relegated the importance of Vande Matram only to please Muslim leaders,” he said.

Parmar said it was the first President of India Dr Rajendra Prasad who in 1950 had accorded the status of national song for Vande Mataram. He said November 7, 2025, will mark the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram.

He said the Central Government on October 1, 2025 decided to celebrate 150th year of Vande Mataram, a national song. “In Himachal, several functions will be held across the state to celebrate this song, which inspired and motivated people to awaken and fight for freedom,” he said.

“It was in 1875 that Vande Mataram was written by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee. This song was written at a time to awaken people to take active part in the freedom movement,” he said. He said it was in 1895 that Rabindranath Tagore sang Vande Mataram, which is our national song.
