Ministers and ruling party Congress MLAs staged a protest at the Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha gate on Wednesday, raising slogans such as “Beti Bachao, BJP Bhagao” and demanding the resignation of a BJP MLA Hans Raj of Churah constituency, who has been recently booked under sexual-offence charges by the Chamba district police.

The police have also questioned another BJP MLA in a separate sexual harassment complaint, the Congress legislators alleged.

Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi lashed out at the BJP over its allegations on the state’s law-and-order situation. “The BJP has raised the issue of law and order, but it is they who have ruined it,” he said. “Several members of their party are facing allegations of sexual harassment. That is why Congress has demanded the resignation of the Churah MLA.”

The Congress MLAs also cited recent allegations against Ram Kumar Bindal, elder brother of BJP state president Rajeev Bindal, and Brijeshwar Kashyap, son of former BJP MP Virendra Kashyap, to counter the opposition’s persistent attacks on the Sukhu government over law-and-order issues.
