Palampur, December 22
Anita Verma, vice-president, HPCC, today said the Congress would win the panchayat elections with a thumping majority as the public was fed up with the policies and programmes of the Jai Ram government.
Anita, who was addressing a press conference here, said development had come to a standstill and the condition of most of the rural roads had become worse. Despite the pandemic, the government enhanced the power tariff and bus fare, putting a burden on the common man.
She said she had been appointed as panchayat election in-charge for six blocks of Kangra district by the AICC. After visiting most of the areas, people complained that the roaster for the reservation in panchayats was prepared by the administration according to the suitability of BJP candidates and it was being changed daily.
She said the situation in the Covid care centres was bad in the absence of proper medical care and people were dying because of lack of medical aid. Those in home isolation were the worst sufferers in the absence of medical aid. She said 900 persons had lost their lives so far because of Covid.
Ashish Butail, Congress MLA, who was also present, said the party was also prepared for the Palampur Municipal Corporation elections due in March. The party would soon start the selection of candidatures and would field honest and hard working candidates.
