Cong seeks Shah’s apology over remarks on Ambedkar
Congress workers protested in Chamba on Tuesday, demanding Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s resignation or apology for his alleged remarks on Dr BR Ambedkar. The demonstration, led by Sadar MLA Neeraj Nayar, took place in front of Dr Ambedkar’s statue, where party members raised slogans condemning the minister’s statements.
Addressing the gathering, MLA Neeraj Nayyar said that Home Minister’s remark was not just an insult to Dr Ambedkar, but also a grave affront to the Constitution of India.
“Amit Shah must apologise to the nation immediately. If he refuses, he should resign from his position,” he said.
He further criticised the BJP for allegedly obstructing democracy by preventing Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi from entering Parliament, calling it a violation of the rights of elected representatives. “The people of this country have now seen the anti-Constitutional face of the BJP. The Home Minister’s remarks against the architect of the Constitution are intolerable and unacceptable,” said Nayar.
Nayyar accused the BJP of consistently opposing constitutional principles and communal harmony. He emphasised that Rahul Gandhi was becoming the strong voice of the nation, and alleged that the BJP was conspiring to suppress his voice in Parliament.
Following the protest, Congress workers marched through the main market in Chamba. They also submitted a memorandum addressed to the President of India through the Additional District Magistrate (ADM) of Chamba.
