Congress indulged in ‘vote theft’ by giving false promises to win 2023 elections: Jai Ram

Leader of the Opposition Jai Ram Thakur today accused the Congress government of “stealing votes” by making false promises, particularly the job guarantee to the youth. Thakur alleged that the Congress misled the public to win the 2022 Assembly elections but had since failed to deliver on key commitments. He criticised the Congress for promising “regular government jobs” before the Assembly elections, only to deny them after coming to power.

Thakur said, “Every Congress leader, from top to bottom, assured people of permanent jobs. Today, those promises are either forgotten or buried under excuses.” He alleged that ministers were making contradictory claims about job creation and there was no reliable data. He added, “One day, a minister says 30,000 jobs have been given. The next day, another claims 35,000 jobs have been provided. There’s no consistency, and numbers are being tossed around to mislead the public.”

He also accused the government of deceiving several sections of society with promises such as Rs 1,500 per month to women, procurement of milk at Rs 100 per litre from farmers, one lakh jobs in the first Cabinet meeting and five lakh jobs in five years, but all remain unfulfilled.

Thakur, along with BJP’s state organisation secretary Siddharthan, met with former Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal at Samirpur. He said that the people of Himachal deserved honesty and real development and not empty slogans and broken promises. “The Congress has failed on all fronts, including employment, agriculture, health and economy. Its only success is the art of vote theft, he alleged.
