Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu today said that it was unfortunate that a few MLAs belonging to his home district betrayed the party due to their vested interests. He dedicated development works worth Rs 77 crore to the district.

Sukhu, while addressing a public meeting, said that all MLAs who abstained from the Budget session had become puppets in the hands of the opposition party that wanted to stall the Congress government. “I had never imagined that a few MLAs from my district would go against the party and hinder the pace of development for which he had consistently been working day and night,” he added.

He said that had the MLAs made him aware of their resentment, he would have honoured their sentiments. He added that the MLAs were elected to the Vidhan Sabha but they chose to hurt the sentiments of their voters, who had voted for them on the ideology of the Congress.

On the BJP’s role, Sukhu said that former Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur should understand the values of democracy and the efforts of the BJP to destabilise the government were undemocratic.

Kuldeep Singh Pathania, Chairman of Kangra Central Cooperative Bank Ltd, said that the MLAs, who went against the Congress and the government, could neither be faithful to people nor to any party. He added that they should have supported the government and worked for the development of their areas.

MLAs Sanjay Rattan (Jwalamukhi), Suresh Kumar (Bhoranj) and Malender Rajan (Indora), former MLAs Anita Verma and Manjeet Dogra, Chairman of Kangra Cooperative Agriculture and Rural Development Bank Ram Chander Pathania, APMC Chairman Ajay Sharma, district Congress president Suman Bharati, senior Congress leader Pushpender Verma, MD, HRTC, Rohan Chand Thakur; Deputy Commissioner, Hamirpur, Amarjeet Singh; SP, Hamirpur, Padam Chand were also present.
