Shimla, August 17

The BJP today accused West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and the Congress of showing insensitivity towards the brutal rape and murder of a doctor at a medical college in Kolkata.

In a statement issued here, state BJP president Rajeev Bindal said that while the entire nation had condemned the heinous crime, the opposition parties, including the Congress and its other India bloc partners, were maintaining a silence on the issue.

“It is so unfortunate that Mamata Banerjee was dilly-dallying on handing over the case to the CBI despite the demand of the victim’s family members and others to involve the body in the matter,” he said.

Shimla MP Suresh Kashyap also condemned the alleged indifferent attitude of the West Bengal Government towards the crime. “I want to ask Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi that despite their big talks about spreading love and harmony, why are they silent in this case. Are they scared to condemn the incident?” he asked.
